What is the Curse of the Bambino?

The Curse of the Bambino is a superstitious belief that suggests that the Boston Red Sox suffered a curse after they sold Babe Ruth to the New York Yankees in 1919. Ruth was known by the nickname "The Bambino," and the curse supposedly prevented the Red Sox from winning a World Series for almost a century.

When the Sox recruited Ruth, they were one of the most historically successful teams in professional baseball, but their fortunes turned after Ruth left, leading some to perhaps jokingly make a correlation between the two events. The curse was apparently broken in 2004, when the Red Sox finally won their first World Series since the early 20th century.
