CuSO4 is the formula for the chemical compound copper sulphate. The most common form of this compound is the pentahydrate, which is bright blue in color, and because of this hue, it is known as blue vitriol and bluestone.
Copper sulphate is used widely in industry as well as in agriculture. It is used in the manufacturing of hair dyes, for coloring glass, textile manufacturing and the processing of leather products. Copper sulphate can be mixed with lime for use as a fungicide. This mixture is known as the "Bordeaux mixture," as it is widely used to manage fungus on grapes. It is used to correct copper deficiency in animals as well as the soil and is a growth stimulant for pigs and broiler chickens.
