How do you cut a Corian countertop?

Cutting a Corian countertop requires proper measurements and a sharp blade. A circular saw or router work best to cut the Corian countertop, but for smaller cuts, a belt sander works great.

Corian countertops are both beautiful and durable, adding value to any home in which they are installed. Properly cutting the Corain requires the ability to measure and draw a straight line and the expertise to use power tools.

1. Prepare the countertop
Prepare the countertop for cutting by placing it face down on saw horses. Measure carefully where the cut line will be, and then mark it with a pencil or grease pencil. Do not use a marker on the countertop.
2. Cutting with a circular saw
Use a fine-toothed blade, cabide blade with 80 to 100 teeth in the circular saw. If a blade is used with fewer teeth, place masking tape around the blade to reduce splitting. 
3. Using a router
When using a router to cut the Corian countertop, cut slowly with light pressure. Make several passes that cut only a small amount off the countertop at each pass.
4. Using a belt sander
If less than an inch needs removing from the countertop, a belt sander with 50 grit sandpaper works well. This method is ideal for small cuts or for preparing the countertop for uneven walls.
