To cut a glass tile, draw a line on it with a glass scoring tool, wedge a thin piece of wire into the cut, turn the tile over, and press on it until it snaps. This five-minute procedure requires a glass scoring tool, a ruler, a length of thin wire, a sturdy work surface, protective gloves and safety goggles.
- Prepare to cut the tile
Put on protective gloves and safety goggles. Lay the tile face-up on a flat work surface.
- Score the tile
Place a ruler on the tile, and hold it with your non-dominant hand. Place the glass scoring tool along the ruler's edge, and pull it down. Use a swift motion, pressing on the glass as you cut. Score the line a second time, and then remove the ruler.
- Insert the wire
Lay a thin piece of wire on top of the cut, and gently press it down into the groove.
- Snap the tile
Flip the tile over so it rests on the wire. Hold one side of the tile down with the heel of one hand, and press down sharply on the elevated edge with the heel of your other hand. Remove your goggles and gloves after the tile snaps.
