How dangerous is a 4.2 radon test result?

A radon test result of 4.2 is somewhat dangerous, according to the EPA. Any amount of radon can carry some risk. When a short-term radon test is 4 or higher, additional testing is needed to determine if the radon is a problem and needs to be fixed.

Radon levels below 4 do not require additional testing, states the EPA. Lowering radon exposure as much as possible, however, can reduce risks of lung cancer and other health risks. Levels above 4 need either a second short-term test or a long-term test. If the average of the two test results is still above 4, then the home should be fixed to remove the danger of radon exposure.
