Is it dangerous to cook with scratched Teflon pans?
By Forinfos - 11/02/2026 - 0 comments
It is not considered dangerous to use Teflon pans or other cookware that has become scratched. Although you may ingest tiny pieces of the Teflon coating, the United States Food and Drug Administration has determined that this is not dangerous.
Teflon-coated cookware can become scratched from metal utensils or improper scouring; however, the cookware is still safe to use. Small particles of the Teflon coating can be ingested and then pass through the digestive system with the use of scratched pans, but this is not a health hazard. Using plastic or wooden utensils and cleaning gently can help prevent scratches on Teflon pans.
