Konjac, also known as Glucomannan powder, is considered safe for most people, though Drugs.com warns there have not been enough clinical trials to clear it completely. One issue that has been reported about the herb is that it can impede the body's ability to control blood sugar levels.

The inhibiting of controlling blood sugar levels has led to some doctors to advise that anyone taking powder made from the Konjac root should discontinue use as far out as two weeks before a surgery. Ingestion of Konjac flour, powder or pills can also cause blockages in both the throat and the intestines, reports Drugs.com.
