What is a DCOM server process launcher?
By Forinfos - 12/02/2026 - 0 comments
The DCOM server process launcher is an automatically starting service used by Windows XP, 7 and 8 to launch COM and DCOM servers in response to specific application requests. When this service fails, the operating system automatically restarts the computer.
A number of services in Windows Vista and 7 require the DCOM Process Launcher Service, including Internet connection sharing, Windows firewall utilities and remote access managers. This is a necessary service of all Windows installations after XP Service Pack 2, and any application or process using the COM or DCOM protocols ceases to function if the service is terminated. The Windows Firewall does not operate without the DCOM Process Launcher Service.
