Deciduous forests are located in the eastern half of the United States, mid-Europe, Japan, New Zealand, eastern China, southwestern Russia, Chile and Paraguay. These regions are known as the temperate deciduous forest biomes.

The temperate deciduous forest biomes have an average annual temperature of 50 degrees Fahrenheit, and they receive about 30 to 60 inches of rain per year, depending on the location. The region is home to billions of plants, insects, animals and fungi that are unique to the deciduous biome. Because these regions are cold, most plant life enters a state of dormancy to survive during the winter.
