How deep is the Marianas Trench?

The deepest spot of the Mariana Trench, a spot known as the Challenge Deep, has been measured at 36,070 feet below sea level. The Challenge Deep is located at the southern end of the Mariana Trench and is considered the deepest point on Earth.
The Mariana Trench is located east of the Mariana Islands, which includes the U.S. territory of Guam, in the western part of the Pacific Ocean. At the bottom of the trench, the pressure is more than 1,000 times the atmospheric pressure at sea level, which is why there is little sea life at this depth outside of single-cell organisms.
