By Forinfos - 22/01/2026 - 0 comments
A dialkylamine is a secondary amine with two alkyl groups. Secondary amines have two organic groups, such as an alkyl or an aryl, bound to nitrogen, which is also bound to one hydrogen.
The International Unit of Pure and Applied Chemistry (IUPAC) name for dialkylamine is N-hexadecylhexadecan-1-amine. It has a chemical formula of C32H67N and a molecular weight of 465.88108 [g/mol]. The properties of secondary amines such as dialkylamine are heavily influenced by hydrogen bonding. Their boiling points are higher than phosphines but lower than alcohols. Secondary amines can react with acyl chlorides and acid anhydrides to form amides in the Schotten–Baumann reaction.
