What is the density of dichloromethane?
By Forinfos - 20/06/2025 - 0 comments
Dichloromethane has a density of 1.33 grams per milliliter at a standard temperature of 25 degrees Celsius. It has a relative density of 2.93 times that of air at sea level.
Dichloromethane retains the structure of ordinary methane, that of a carbon atom surrounded by four hydrogen atoms, but with two of the hydrogen atoms having been replaced by atoms of chlorine. It is produced by combining chlorine gas with methane, heating the combination to over 400 degrees Celsius and distilling the result. Dichloromethane's density and volatility make it useful as a propellant in aerosol products that no longer use CFCs.
