Soda-lime glass is the most common type of glass and it is usually what is being referred to when the term "glass" is used. In addition to several types of additives, soda-lime glass is made from lime (CaO), sodium oxide (Na2O) from sodium carbonate (Na2O3), and silicon dioxide (SiO2), also known as silica and the most common fundamental component in glass. Silica can account for up to about 75 percent of glass by weight.
