Department 56 is a retail store that specializes in gifts, holiday decorations and collectibles. Started in 1976, Department 56 was originally division 56 of a retail florist called Bachman's but later went public on the New York Stock Exchange in 1993.
Department 56's original product line was a six-building, ceramic, hand-painted Christmas village. The company went on to produce other Christmas villages, including the Dickens' Village series, the North Pole series and the Alpine Village Series. They also added other seasonal collectibles for Halloween, Easter and other occasions. The company now offers over 3,000 products. Customers may purchase items on the Department 56 website or at local retailers.
