As of 2015, department stores that offer credit cards to consumers with unfavorable credit histories include Wal-Mart, J.C.Penney, Sears, Von Maur and Macy's, states Credit Card Forum. The Wal-Mart Discover card considers applicants with credit scores as low as 550, according to Super Money.
Department store credit cards are traditionally more lenient about credit requirements than other types of credit cards and are a good way to build or rebuild a credit history, reports Bank Rate. Store credit cards tend to charge higher-than-average interest rates, so carrying a revolving balance is likely to offset any store discounts that the card provides.
