What is a desert scrub?

Desert scrub is an arid biome that makes its home in places that receive very little precipitation per year, averaging less then 10 inches of rainfall per year. Desert scrub areas have a low species variety in relation to other types of biomes.

Shrubs are the main type of vegetation found in the desert scrub biome, which have shallow but extensive root systems to obtain the maximum amount of water. Other plants are cacti, broadleaved evergreens and some types of tall grasses. The primary species found in a desert biome are rodents, reptiles and insects. These shrubs live in open landscapes with scattered plant life and barren ground.
