Who makes or designs Pinewood Derby cars?

Cub Scouts make or design Pinewood Derby cars with the help of an adult mentor or a parent. Pinewood Derby cars are tiny model cars used to race down a track with the power of gravity. The Pinewood Derby car competition started in 1953 by Cubmaster Donald Murphy.

The Pinewood Derby offers Cub Scouts an opportunity to build sportsmanship. Cub Scouts also carve, refine and weigh Pinewood Derby cars. A Pinewood Derby car can travel as fast as 20 miles per hour. Cub Scouts have built nearly 100 million Pinewood Derby cars since its inception, as of 2015. Most Cub Scout packs hold the racing competition either indoors or outdoors on an annual basis.
