Highway toll prices are determined by different agencies in every state, and some states have several different agencies that control the highway toll prices. For example, several different state, county and regional agencies operate different toll roads in Texas.
Once such agency, the North Texas Tollway Authority, reviews and adjusts the toll rates for the roads it operates every other year. In Washington, the Washington State Department of Transportation and the Washington State Transportation Commission work together to set the toll rates for highways in the state. Before the commission sets a new toll rate, it holds public input meetings and accepts written input from the public.
