What is dextrose?
By Forinfos - 23/02/2025 - 0 comments
Dextrose is a simple sugar that is similar in chemical makeup to glucose made from corn. Because it is a simple sugar, it is easily absorbed by the body making it valuable as a rescue medication for people with very low blood sugars.
Dextrose is available in different forms including gels, tablets, intravenous and intramuscular mixtures—intramuscular being for injections. All of these forms allow for rapid absorption by the body and a quick rise in blood sugar levels. People who suffer from diabetes or hypoglycemia (low blood sugar) often carry gels or tablets to treat symptoms of low blood sugar quickly.
