What did the Adena Indians wear?

The people of the Adena culture wore clothing made with animal hides and cloth woven from bark and plant material. Evidence suggests that the men wore loincloths or breechcloths, while the women dressed in skirts made from leather. Woven clothing was primarily reserved for spiritual and community leaders.

The Adena culture was a group of prehistoric Native Americans who lived in the Ohio, Indiana, West Virginia and Kentucky region between 800 B.C. and 100 A.D. They tanned and waterproofed deer hides, often decorating their garments with elaborate seashell designs, beads, bones and animal teeth. They also used hide to make moccasins, leggings and belts.
