When did Bishop TD Jakes first start preaching?

T.D. Jakes started preaching in 1979 after founding the Greater Emmanuel Temple of Faith in West Virginia. The church had 10 members at its inaugural service. As of 2015, Jakes is the pastor of The Potter’s House, a mega church in Dallas, Texas, with 30,000 members.

In addition, Jakes is the author of around two dozen books, some of which were made into movies. Jakes is also the recipient of several awards, including an NAACP Image award, BET Honors, a Stellar award and a Keeper of the Dream award, among others. He married Serita Jamison, also a pastor, in 1981; they have five children.
