When did Chevy start making the 2500HD Duramax?

General Motors first released the Chevrolet Silverado 2500HD in 2000 with three Duramax V-8 engine options. The "HD" in the model name stands for "heavy duty."

Chevrolet markets the Silverado 2500HD as a heavy-duty light truck. The Silverado 2500HD line primarily has diesel engines; diesel engines offer relatively little horsepower and low RPMs for their size, but they typically provide significantly more torque than their gasoline-fueled counterparts, which makes carrying heavy weight and traveling in off-road conditions easier. In 2014, General Motors released a variation of the Chevrolet Silverado 2500HD with a Vortec 6000 engine, giving buyers looking for a gasoline engine an option.
