What did colonial period blacksmiths wear?

During the colonial period, blacksmiths wore clothing made from linen, wood and leather. Their basic wardrobe included a long-sleeved linen shirt, a linen or wool vestand wool or deer skin knee-length trousers. To cover their heads, they wore a tri-point styled hat made from felt or knit, and shoes were made from a thick leather with a simple buckle or laces.

While a blacksmith worked, he would wear a heavy-weight leather apron that covered him from the shoulders to the knees. This apron offered protection against heat, flames, or sparks as they forged metal. Some blacksmiths opted to wear leather gloves as hand protection, while others worked bare-handed.
