Where did the earliest European settlers land in America?

The first European settlers landed in Hispaniola, now known as the Dominican Republic, in the town of Isabella, around 1493, shortly after Columbus’ first journey. Explorers had previously landed here in 1492. Spaniards established other settlements in Santo Domingo and on the Panamanian isthmus shortly afterward.

Vikings from Norway and Iceland are known to have explored North America and establish settlements on Greenland as many as 700 years earlier. English explorer John Cabot landed in Newfoundland in 1497, but English settlers did not arrive on the North American mainland until 1607 when they established the colony of Jamestown. The Pilgrims subsequently established Plymouth in 1620.
