How did Hawaii get its nickname?

Hawaii got its official nickname, which is "The Aloha State," when the state legislature adopted it officially in 1959. In this same year, Hawaii was admitted as a state in the United States. The word "aloha" in the Hawaiian languages has different meanings, such as "hello," "goodbye," "love" and "the presence of breath."

In a spiritual context, aloha is associated with a way of living in spirit with others and oneself. In Hawaii, this is the most used word.

Some other nicknames associated with Hawaii are the "Pineapple State" and the "Paradise of the Pacific."

Hawaii is the 50th state, and is made up of approximately 132 islands. It is also known for its active volcanoes.
