Luigi Galvani did not produce any major inventions. Galvani was an Italian physician and physicist whose research and discoveries led to Alessandro Volta's invention of the voltaic pile.
Galvani's experiments led him to encounter galvanism, the chief phenomenon of which is the emergence of electric current when two different metals make contact with each other in a moist environment. Galvani failed to interpret his findings correctly, however, which allowed Volta to make the important invention. Volta succeeded in inventing the pile by 1799. The pile was a primitive form of wet-cell battery that made possible the presence of a constant source of electric current.
