The Mayans used bows and arrows to hunt animals for food. They hunted many different types of wildlife like deer, dogs, agouti, turkeys and peccaries.
Hunting was a small part of the food Mayans consumed. In fact, their farming practices are the major source of food and they also procured fresh honey from keeping bees. They used slash and burn agriculture, which means that they cut down forested areas for farming and then they burned the trees to get rid of them. Their staple food was maize, but they also had sweet potatoes, watermelons, beans, squashes, papaya, chilies and avocados on their farms.
