Mr. Food was a renowned cookbook author who did write some of the recipes for his TV show, particularly in the show's earlier years. As the Mr. Food brand grew, however, a test kitchen was created in which a team of chefs worked together to develop new recipes.
Mr. Food was a man named Art Ginsburg. Ginsburg got his start as a butcher and caterer. His television segments were a local effort until 1982 when they began airing nationally. Ginsburg made his first cookbook deal with William Morrow in 1989. The test kitchen was created in 1994, when the Mr. Food brand was expanded following the success of Ginsburg's cookbooks.
