What did the National Assembly do during the French Revolution?

During the French Revolution, the National Assembly represented the revolutionaries of the Third Estate and petitioned the King of France for many rights. The National Assembly also created the "Declaration of the Rights of Man and of the Citizen," which was to guarantee rights for every citizen in France regardless of whatever government laws King Louis XVI passed.

The King and the nobles were unhappy with this "equal" declaration and did not believe that every Frenchman should be considered equal to one another. He did not accept it and it did not make its way into official law, but the ideas from the declaration stayed with the public and continued to influence them.
