Rick Pitino has publicly admitted to having a one night stand with a married woman named Karen Cunagin in 2003. After the one night night stand, Cunagin informed Pitino she was pregnant, and he paid $3000 for her to get an abortion.

Karen Cunagin later married equipment manager Tim Sypher and attempted to extort Rick Pitino of $10 million to keep the affair a secret. Pitino informed the FBI that Karen Cunigan Sypher was extorting him, and she was charged and found guilty of extortion and lying to federal agents in 2010. Pitino did not resign from his position as head coach of Louisville's men's basketball team, and the administration stood behind him.
