Schering-Plough is a pharmaceutical company that manufactures hundreds of well-known medications worldwide. Among its best-known products are Claritin, Nasonex, Afrin and Vytorin. The company operates under Merck and Co. as of 2014.
The Schering company was originally established in 1851 as Schering AG, and Plough was founded in the 1908. The two companies merged in 1971 to form Schering-Plough. In 2009, it made Merck and Co. a subsidiary, and took the Merck name.
In addition to its pharmaceuticals, Schering-Plough has also produced Dr. Scholl's foot care products, Coppertone skin care, Maybelline cosmetics, a network of American radio stations and various veterinary vaccines.
