When did Sidney Crosby become a hockey player?

Sidney Crosby began playing competitive hockey as a child and continued to play throughout high school. He became a professional hockey player when he was chosen as the first round pick of the Pittsburgh Penguins in the 2005 NHL draft.

Sidney Crosby played hockey in local youth clubs and at Shattuck St. Mary's prep school in Minnesota. Upon returning to Canada, he played for the Quebec Major Junior Hockey League and for the Canadian Junior Hockey Team. He was the youngest player to ever score a goal during the World Junior Championships.

In 2009, as the youngest team captain in NHL history, Crosby led the Penguins to their first Stanley Cup win in nearly two decades.
