The diet of the stag moose consisted primarily of grass. Weighing up to 1,000 pounds, the stag moose lived in Eurasia and North America during the Pleistocene period. It became extinct over 11,000 years ago.
The stag moose resembled a cross between an elk and a moose. The antlers of the stag moose were very elaborate, with large flat areas and thinner projections. Its primary habitat was woodlands and forests, with occasional ventures into water to search for vegetation. William Clark discovered the first stag moose fossil in 1805. Since then, multiple fossils have been found in the midwestern United States.
