Thailand does not have an independence day because it was never colonized, but it was began in 1238 by two governors: Khun Pha Muang and Khun Bang Klang Thao. Thailand started as a small state called Sukhothai, and extended its boundaries between 1238 and 1438.
Between 1855 and 1969, the country was called Siam. Between 1901 and 1909, the French and British authorities posed threats to the independence of Siam. Siam was compelled to renounce its claims in Laos and Cambodia, but the country maintained its independence. In 1939, after the formation of a democratic government, the country name was changed from Siam to Thailand.
