According to review aggregator website Rotten Tomatoes, the average rating for "Thor: The Dark World" is 66 percent positive as of 2015. Metacritic, using a weighted average, reports a score of 54 out of 100. These figures show a mixed critical response.

The second "Thor" film was released in 2013 as the eighth film in the Marvel Cinematic Universe and the first of the "Phase Two" films. As of 2015, it is the lowest-rated film in the MCU on both Rotten Tomatoes and Metacritic. The highest rated film in the MCU on both of these websites is "Iron Man," with scores of 94 percent and 79 out of 100 reported, respectively.
