Rammasun, which was referred to as Glenda in the Philippines, was the first major typhoon of 2014 for the area. About 350,000 people evacuated their homes in anticipation of the storm. It was a category three storm when it made landfall, hitting many major cities of the Philippines. The Philippines typically gets about eight major tropical storms per year. Typhoon Haiyan was responsible for over 6,000 deaths in 2013.
