When did WellPoint become Anthem?

WellPoint officially changed its name to Anthem in December 2014, explains industry news publication Modern Healthcare. The company's stock now trades under the ticker symbol ANTM.
Anthem and WellPoint Health Networks merged in 2004 to create one of the largest publicly traded health insurers in the United States, reports Modern Healthcare. The combined entity was initially called WellPoint. However, many of the company's affiliated Blue Cross Blue Shield health plans continued to use the Anthem name. The company made the change to reduce customer confusion as it increasingly markets its health plans directly to consumers as a result of the Affordable Care Act, notes the Indianapolis Business Journal.
