What did Zimmerman do?

On Feb. 26th, 2012, 17 year old Trayvon Martin was fatally shot by neighborhood watchman George Zimmerman. Zimmerman claims he acted out of self defense, shooting Martin after an altercation broke out when Zimmerman confronted Martin about his alleged suspicious behavior. Zimmerman was eventually acquitted of second-degree murder charges.

Concerned that he may be breaking into houses, Zimmerman began following Martin despite orders from law enforcement to leave the young man alone. A fight broke out between the two that resulted in Trayvon being fatally shot in the chest by Zimmerman. Police arrived to the scene quickly, finding Martin deceased and Zimmerman laying on the ground with several injuries to his face. Zimmerman was arrested on the scene and charged with second-degree murder in June of 2013, only to be acquitted the following month.
