What is the difference between bryophytes and tracheophytes?

Bryophytes differ from tracheophytes because they lack a vascular system. Tracheophytes grow vertically and receive water and minerals to their aerial parts, which are the xylem and the phloem, while bryophytes grow horizontally near the food resource and perform cellular absorption.

Tracheophytes possess a highly evolved root system; bryophytes, which are the earliest plant forms, do not possess roots, although the stems, called rhizomes, of a few plants extend into the ground. Bryophytes have adapted to live in a hot and dry environment and exhibit dormancy for a period of time, while tracheophytes enter dormancy to withstand the cold winter months.
