What is the difference between organic and inorganic acids?

An organic acid is an organic substance that has the properties of an acid, while inorganic acids, also known as mineral acids, come from inorganic substances. Some examples of inorganic acids include suphuric acid, hydrochloric acid, nitric acid, boric acid and hydrofluoric acid.

Organic acids typically include those with –COOH, –SO2OH and –OH. For example, lactic acid, a common organic acid, is represented by the molecular formula C2H4OHCOOH, which contains the -COOH indicating molecules in the carboxyl group. Other types of organic acids include acetic acid, citric acid, uric acid and malic acid. Organic acids are typically weaker than inorganic acids.
