What is the difference between white and black PVC pipes?

The difference between black and white PVC pipes is the chemical composition of the plastic used in manufacturing them. They are both primarily used for water drainage purposes.
White pipe is composed of poly-vinyl chloride, hence the designation of PVC. The black pipe is composed of acylonitrile butadiene styrene. It is commonly referred to as ABS pipe. While both serve the same function in homes, the most distinctive practical difference between them is how multiple sections are joined together. White PVC pipe requires a two-step adhesive consisting of a solvent cement and primer. Black ABS pipe can be joined simply by using the appropriate glue.
