Some of the differences between WiFi and WiMAX are their ranges and their speeds. The range in WiFi is around several hundred feet, and the range for WiMAX is up to 40 miles. WiFi offers speeds of up to 54 Mbps, while the speeds offered in WiMax are up to 70 Mbps.
Other differences found between WiFi and WiMAX are their abilities of scale. WiMAX gives support to as many as hundreds per CPE. The WiMAX choice has channel sizes of up to 20 MHz. The WiFi choice offers scales from one to the tens. WiFi has one subscriber per CPE. WiFi has fixed channel sizes of 20 MHz.
