What are some different kinds of angels?

In Christianity, angels have an established hierarchy and some of the different types of angels include the Seraphim, Cherubim, Thrones and Ophanim. Medieval Christian theologians classify angels in several angelic orders.

Seraphim are the highest order of angels and they belong to the First Sphere, which also includes Cherubim and Thrones. Together, these angels act as heavenly counselors. The angels in the Second Sphere are the heavenly governors and include Dominions, Virtues and Powers. Finally, the angels in the Third Sphere are the heavenly soldiers and messengers and they include the Principalities, Archangels and angels who take care of the affairs of the living.
