Liver diseases include hepatitis A, B and C as well as cirrhosis, according to the Mayo Clinic. Other liver diseases include jaundice, liver cancer, liver adenoma, hemochromatosis and autoimmune hepatitis. There are also primary biliary cirrhosis, primary sclerosing cholangitis, bile duct cancer and Wilson's disease.

Liver disease can be caused by pathogens, genetics, toxins and alcohol abuse, says the Mayo Clinic. In some liver diseases, the body's own immune system attacks the organ. Conditions that put a person at higher risk for liver disease include unprotected sexual contact, obesity, diabetes, elevated levels of cholesterol and triglycerides, and drug abuse. Liver diseases can be acute or chronic.
