There are two types of aggressive behavior: reactive, which involves spontaneous and impulsive actions, and proactive, which entails intentional actions. Reactive aggressive behaviors are often responses to strong emotions with a desire to retaliate. Proactive aggression seeks an outcome other than harm, such as superiority in the case of bullying.
Aggressive behavior can include physical violence, verbal hostility, non-verbal intimidation and ruining property. Physical violence includes kicking, hitting and biting, and may involve the use of weapons. Swearing, yelling, cyber-bullying and making threatening phone calls or emails are examples of verbal hostility.
Nonverbal intimidation includes sending undesirable gifts, making threatening or offensive gestures and sexual harassment. Vandalism, breaking a person's belongings and ruining property are examples of destructive aggression.
