What are the different types of circuit breakers?

Standard, GFCI and AFCI are the three different types of circuit breakers. The one needed for a particular project is dependent on what wattage goes through it.
Standard breakers are generally 20 amps. They flip off when a wire overheats or too much voltage surges through the line. GFCI breakers, or ground fault circuit interrupters, trip when a grounded appliance has a surge in power. These breakers are used in kitchens or bathrooms where water may cause an issue. AFCI breakers, or arc fault circuit interrupters, are the quickest to flip. They flip when an arc is created in the current. These breakers are best used in older homes.
