Some examples of different types of communities include communities of interest, action and circumstance. A community is defined as a unified group of people who have an important characteristic in common.
A community of interest is a loosely organized or unorganized group of people who come together because they share a common interest or concern. Examples of communities of interest include fans of sports teams or marathon runners.
When a group of people believe in a particular cause and come together to bring about change, they are called a community of action. Examples of this type of community are human rights advocates or people canvassing for a political party.
Communities of circumstance are groups of people who assemble together because of their shared experiences, rather than shared interests. Examples of circumstance communities are people in a terminal illness support group or people in the same prison.
