What are the different types of crickets?

There are over 900 different species of cricket, but the most common types found in North America are field crickets, camel crickets and house crickets. Other common types include ground crickets, tree crickets, mole crickets, bush crickets and scaly crickets.

Field crickets tend to grow about an inch long and are shiny and black in color. They are often found in long grass and flower beds, and males are known for their loud chirping. Camel crickets appear tan in color and grow up to 1 ½-inches long, and unlike other types of crickets, they do not chirp. House crickets can grow up to an inch long. They appear light brown in color and are distinguishable by their high attraction to light.
