Some different types of garden mums are Class 4 decoratives, Class 3 regular incurves, Class 6 pompons and Class 8 anemones. Class 4 decoratives have short petals, with the top petals tightly curved inward to hide the center of the flower.

Class 3 regular incurve chrysanthemums form tight, nearly perfect balls that are from 4 to 6 inches in diameter. Pompons are flat when they first open but grow round with age. Their size can range from that of a button to about 4 inches in diameter. The Class 8 anemone type chrysanthemum has a domed, cushion-like center surrounded by petals.
