What are some different types of hinges?

Different types of hinges include butt hinges, T-hinges, strap hinges and gate hinges. Other types of hinges include specialty hinges, soss hinges and piano hinges, in addition to different types of cabinet hinges.

Butt hinges are made of two leaves joined by a pin. Screw holes are drilled into the wings. The horizontal component of the T-hinge is attached to the door frame, and the vertical component is attached to the door itself.

Strap hinges can come in ornamental types. They are made of two leaves attached, like the butt hinge, by a pin or rod, and they can be large or small. Other hinges are designed to be concealed, to fold in both directions and for decoration.
